Is the book portion of the lamp hollow? If so, how much stuff can it hold?

There’s a review that mentioned charging requires 220v? I want to make sure that isn’t the case. Also, is it bright enough for reading? I want to put it on my end table to read at night. Thank you 😊

There is a knob at the bottom of the book that is the on/off/dimmer switch.
